Airtel donates books to Mpita secondary school
Airtel Tanzania has donated text books worth 2m/- to Mpita secondary school in Singida, being part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
The donated books are for Mathematics, Biology and Kiswahili subjects.
Speaking at a brief handover ceremony at Airtel offices in Dar es Salaam, the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Ms Hawa Bayumi said, “Through its continuous nationwide book campaign, Airtel is committed to changing Tanzanian lives through education.”
She said the company will continue working with the government through the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to improve education facilities in the country and ultimately raise the education standard to develop a well equipped future workforce.
She added, “It is better to teach one how to fish than give them fish.” The school’s representative, Ms Mary Hiki said, “We are very happy to receive Airtel’s contribution towards improving education in our school.”
Airtel is committed to give back to Tanzania, focusing on education of marginalised communities. Last month Airtel donated four computers and books worth 5m/- for Mazombe Secondary School in Iringa in a programme that will reach more school throughout Tanzania. Airtel also supports top performers at advanced education through University scholarships under Airtel scholar programme.
