Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC) Philip Kalangi, has warned pastoralists who invade game reserves with unvaccinated cattle.

In recent months pastoralists from neighbouring countries are reported to have invaded Kimisi,  Burigi and Rubanda-Rumanyika Game reserves with hundreds of unvaccinated livestock causing a health risk.  He said investigations were underway following reports that a total of 25 heads of cattle were recently killed at Bihata on Kimisi Game Reserve.

In another development, Mr Kalangi cautioned residents in the region to be careful and vigilant while celebrating Eid el-Fitr.  He urged drivers to avoid excessive drinking and to adhere to road safety regulations and called upon pedestrians to be careful as they walk along roads.

He called upon parents to take extra care on their children during Eid celebrations and warned children against walking alone and swimming in Lake Victoria.    He cautioned residents in the region not to leave their houses alone as vagabonds also were looking opportunities to steal.

Meanwhile Kagera Regional Commissioner (RC) Fabian Massawe has urged residents in the region to participate fully in the Population and Housing Census which expected to kick off on August 26.  He said the census had nothing to do with one’s faith or political affiliation and aims at enabling the government to get exact number of people and in order plan effectively.
