Emma Stone: My crippling web of insecurities make me worry about everything, says Spider-Man’s girl

With Hollywood at her feet and its hottest new property on her arm, few would guess beautiful Emma Stone lacked confidence.

Emma Stone, pictured in next month’s issue of Vogue, says she suffered as a child

Yet the 23-year-old, who is dating Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield, has confessed that she took up acting only to help her deal with her own crippling insecurities.

Covering Vogue magazine in a sexy Sixties-style photoshoot, Emma said: ‘I had a panic attack when I was eight.

‘My mum couldn’t put notes in my lunch because I would be reminded that she existed and I would want to go home. And I was sick all the time.’

‘When I went through therapy, I tried improv for the first time, and I think there was some  cathartic element to it.’

Emma and Andrew recently moved into an apartment in New York, having fallen for each other on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man – in the film she plays his love interest, Gwen Stacy.

But her success has presented a new problem. ‘I worry about my fame making New York unliveable,’ she admits. ‘To not walk around would be awful .  .  . that idea makes me physically ill.’

Emma, who was born in Arizona, shot to fame in 2010 in teenage comedy Easy A and has since won critical acclaim for her performance in the Oscar-nominated The Help.

Although she is also known for her steamy romp with Ryan Gosling in last year’s Crazy, Stupid, Love, Emma tells Vogue that despite being involved in a number of love scenes, she has never been naked on camera.

She is reunited with Gosling in her latest movie, Gangster Squad.
