Genocide fugitive arrested in Kampala

By

A Genocide fugitive, Thadee Kwitonda, was arrested yesterday morning near the Belgian Embassy in Kampala.

Kwitonda’s luck run out this morning

According to Ugandan press, Kwitonda was captured after a 30-minute operation conducted by a Ugandan Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Directorate (CIID) team.

The development came as a surprise to Rwandan authorities who thought Kwitonda was on Belgian soil, according to prosecution.

“This is a big surprise because we have been working with the Belgian authorities for the last two years to arrest and extradite Kwitonda. This is good news for justice, but we will wait for confirmation from our Ugandan neighbours. As for now, we have not yet received information about the development from the Ugandan authorities,” John Bosco Siboyintore, the Head of Genocide Fugitive Tracking Unit, said yesterday.

According to Ugandan press, Kwitonda had reportedly denounced his Rwandan nationality opting for Belgian citizenship and was reportedly attached to the Belgium Embassy in Kampala.
