Lesbian teens shot in ‘gay hate attack’

By

TWO teenage lesbian lovers have been shot in what many fear is a gay hate attack – leaving one girl dead and the other fighting for her life.

Attack … Mollie, right, died but Mary survived

Tragic Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and girlfriend Mary Christine Chapa, 18 were found with gunshot wounds in a park in the Corpus Christi area of Texas, in the US.

Survivor Mary was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery and was said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Police said they’ve yet to establish a link between the girls’ sexualities and the case but investigations were continuing and they believed a third party was involved.

Police chief Randy Wright told US network msnbc: “It appears as if this was not just a random attack but that’s something that we really have to develop over time.”

Meanwhile news of the attack began spreading across America via social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

And tonight a vigil was due to be held at San Francisco’s Harvey Milk Plaza – a building named after the gay American politician who was shot dead in 1978.

The girls’ friends had earlier gathered at their local school to pray for them.

Mary’s housemate Samantha Garrett told kristv.com the couple hadn’t had any negative reaction to their relationship and added she had no idea who would want to hurt them.
