Mafisango excited to join Simba

Patrick Mutesa Mafisango

Rwandan ace Patrick Mutesa Mafisango has revealed that he is excited about his move to Mainland giants Simba and is envisioning a successful career with the former Premier League champions.

The Congolese-born defender- cum-midfielder, who last season turned out for Azam FC, has joined Simba in a swap deal that saw combative midfielder Abdulhalim Homoud going the other way.

Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ lately Mafisango said: “I’m very excited to be joining Simba. They are one of the biggest teams in the region with many great players.”

Mafisango said he cannot wait to make his debut for the Msimbazi Street outfit, “I’m really looking forward to playing in the League and the continental football with my new club.

‘’I’m here to win, as I said Simba are top club in the regional game and my objective is both the domestic league and international competitions.”

Mafisango, who has become one of the most accomplished players in the Vodacom Premier League since joining the Dar es Salaam city tycoons, said Simba’s offer was too good to turn down.

“I’m really delighted about this next stage of my career, hopefully playing my part in helping the Club to new successes,” the former APR skipper revealed.

Mafisango returned from his native DR Congo mid last week and started light training right away alongside his teammates, currently preparing for their play-off match against Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.

Simba made a mysterious return to the African Champions League and should also brace themselves for potential Confederation Cup appearance after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) disqualified from the tournament, TP Mazembe for fielding an ineligible player, when the two teams met in the second round of the continental event.

Mafisango is not eligible for the decisive showdown but could be added to the Simba squad should the team beat Wyadad to reach the group stage of the premium African club championship.

‘’I think this team can go all the way, there is a lot of quality in the squad and it would be great if they make it to the group stage, I’m looking forward to joining them then,” charming Mafisango said.

Although he has been converted into a central defender, the holding midfield role remains his preference. Mafisango, the former APR skipper, of Congolese origin, was dropped from the team after falling out with Tetteh but the two have now ironed out their differences.

Apart from Mafisango, other new faces in the Simba squad for next season include Mtibwa attacking midfielder Salum Machaku, defender Obadia Mungusa and JKT Ruvu midfielder Mwinyi Kazimoto.

The club has also reunited with former stars Athumani Idd, Haruna Moshi ‘Boban’, Nasoro Said ‘Cholo’ and Ulimboka Mwakingwe.
