Malindi lose to Jamhuri as poor form continues

Malindi continued their poor run of form in the Zanzibar Premier League with a 2-1 loss against Jamhuri at the Amaan Stadium here on Saturday.

Goals from Abdallah Othman and Mbarouk Khamis in either half meant Malindi’s poor run of form continues.

Malindi, who have endured a torrid start to the isles top flight league, conceded to Othman’s strike in the 21st minute, but fought their way back into the game when Amour Suleiman slotted home the equalizer.

Malindi wasted a glorious opportunity to go ahead when Suleiman missed from the spot. The Malindi striker saw his shot saved by Jamhuri goalkeeper Suleiman Maabadi Masharubu.Jamhuri suffered a huge blow moments into the restart when Mfaume Shaaban was sent off by referee Makame Chirau, for beating up Malindi’s Habibu Hamad.

Inspired rather than being discouraged by the red card, Jamhuri notched the winner from the spot kick converted by Khamis in the 68th minute.Jamhuri were awarded the penalty after Malindi’s Abrahman Said bundled down goal-bound Suleiman Khatib inside the box.

Khamis stepped up and showed Suleiman how it is done. The win moved Jamhuri to fourth place in the table with 11 points.
