Museveni faults poor results on teacher neglect

President Yoweri Museveni

President Museveni has said teacher negligence is the lead cause of poor performance and a setback in education.

Speaking during the Easter celebrations at St. Mathew Cathedral, Kyamate, Mr Museveni showed concern over increasing poor performance in schools.

“During our time, I used to walk for over eight kilometres to Kyamate here but still studied. Why are pupils today failing when schools are from nose to the mouth?” he asked.

The President said the issues bringing the poor performance seem to be with the teachers because government has set up everything for the situation in education to improve.

“Schools have been set up. Government is paying for education, but I hear some teachers stay under mango trees when the pupils are in class. We shall resolve all that,” he said.

Mr Museveni, who was making a surprise appearance for Easter mass, said he never wanted politicking during the festive season.
“Whenever I inform people that I am coming to pray, you find a whole church parked with politicians.

I never wanted this, I wanted to come and pray with those who have come to pray, not those who have come to see and meet the President,” he said.
