The boyfriend of the deceased Butaleja MP, Cerinah Nebanda has been arrested in Kenya and extradited to Uganda.

According to a statement issued Friday morning by the Uganda Police signed by IGP Lt Gen. General Kale Kayihura, Adam Suleiman Kalungi who went missing on December 14, 2012 following the MP’s mysterious death,  was hiding in Mombasa, Kenya where he was arrested by the Kenyan Police.

On January 1 Kayihura revealed that the Police had asked the International Police (Interpol) to issue a red notice, seeking Kalungi’s arrest.  The move came after court on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Kalungi alias Luli.

Deputy police spokesperson Vincent Sekate says the arrest of Adam Kalungi will intensify their investigations into the death of the late Cerinah Nebanda because Kalungi could be well versed with all events and circumstances that led to the MP’s death.

FULL STATEMENT FROM POLICE:

The Kenyan government has, this morning of Friday, 4th January 2013, deported Adam Suleiman Kalungi alias Luli back to Uganda, after the Kenyan Police tracked him down, and arrested him from where he was hiding in Mombasa, Kenya, after fleeing Uganda, on the 14th December 2012, after being told (at Nsambya General Clinic) that the Hon Celinah Nebanda had passed away. The fugitive was handed over, early this morning, by a team of Kenya Police officers to a team of Uganda Police officers at Malaba border post, Tororo district.

At this moment, Adam Suleiman Kalungi is in Uganda Police custody to help us with the ongoing investigations into the death of the Hon Celinah Nebanda.

Although we have gathered (from diverse sources) evidence that provide strong basis to explain the circumstances, and cause of death of the Hon Celinah Nebanda, the arrest of Adam Suleiman Kalungi is very significant indeed, as he is the one single person that knows, and must explain the events, and circumstances leading to the death of the Hon Celinah Nebanda, especially that it was from his apartment in Buziga, Kampala, that Adam Kalungi and his associates took the deceased to the Nsambya General Clinic, where her death was pronounced.

We pay tribute to the Kenya government and, in particular the Kenya Police, for their efforts to trace and deport the fugitive.
