NIC Golf Series head to Thika
The NIC Golf Series heads to the Thika Sports Club on Saturday for what will be the fifth event in the series.
With over 200-golfers registered to play at the 18-hole Thika Golf Course, this is widely expected to be the top golf event this weekend.
Thika Golf Captain, Patrick Gakuo, said: “This has been a busy year for Thika and this NIC Bank Golf tournament gives our humble club another opportunity to showcase our great golf course, our new water features and our improved service overall,”
Gakuo said. “However, our visitors from Nairobi are well warned that this is a challenging golf course and victory will go to those who play conservatively around this great layout.”
The NIC CEO, James Macharia (pictured) will tee off at 11am while NIC’s Tim Gitonga will tee off at 12noon in the company of Anthony Mutugi, Kanyi Gachoka and Charles Gacheru.
Meanwhile, David Opati’s status as series leader face real challenge as the seventh round of Keringet-sponsored Golfer of the Year competition takes place at Limuru Golf Club on July 13-14.
Opati, the Golf Park member, is among the 90 golfers who have confirmed participation in the 54 hole event. He tees off at 7.52am alongside N Kimondo and R Njoroge of Karen Country and Golf Club.
After a dismal performance where he lost in the third round to John Ndicho of Sigona Golf Club during the last leg Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship at the Windsor Golf Club, the Golf Park player, who collected no points from the event, will be looking to stretch his lead. He is currently leading the table with 45.25 points.
