Budding actress Elizabeth Michael ‘Lulu’ (18)  is being held at Oysterbay Police Station in Dar es Salaam in connection with the sudden death of actor-cum-producer Steven Kanumba (28) on Friday night.

Kinondoni Regional Police Commander Charles Kenyela said Lulu was arrested yesterday after 8 am in the morning following reports that her boyfriend Kanumba collapsed and died after she pushed him off while they were together.

Kenyela said the accused will appear before the court once investigations into the incident are completed.

He said the police force were told of Kanumba’s death by a younger brother of the deceased who was staying with him at Sinza Vatican area. The young man called the police after noticing that Kanumba was in a critical condition after he fell off in a pushing tussle with his girlfriend, Lulu.

The pushing arose from a telephone call that Lulu had received while Kanumba was in the bathroom, and noting the talk he demanded to see what person made the call, so the pushing started for the phone.

As he was from the bathroom he stumbled and fell, hit the back of his head and disrupted some key brain organs, household sources noted. Kenyela said after getting the call they went and found Kanumba unconscious and the girl having bolted from the house.

The RPC said the artist’s death resulted from the shoving from the girl.

The late Kanumba’s body was being preserved at the Muhimbili National Hospital for autopsy and eventual burial arrangements by his family.
