Ruto: Invest more in tourism

Kenya stands to gain from its huge tourism potential if it sets its priorities right.

Today, France hosts more than 72 million tourists a year, UK 30 million while Malaysia 27 million. On the other hand, Kenya, with a much more superior tourism products, receives only 1.5 million visitors.
Mr Ruto says when the country expands its marketing budget, enhance security.
Apart from earning the country foreign exchange, experts say the sector stands to create employment, especially to the thousands of qualified but unemployed youth.
The legislator was speaking in Narok when he met the youth as he sought a solution to the controversy around the introduction of e-ticketing for revenue collection at the Masai Mara

The new system will enable visitors to conveniently access the park and make payments for other park activities. The system which is being investigated by the Parliamentary Committee on local government will be the sole accepted mode of payment for park entry.
