SFG dismiss assassination attempts on President

By

President Yoweri Museveni

The Special Forces Group (SFG), the elite force that guards President Museveni, yesterday said the President was safe and denied there had been attempts to assassinate him.

The SFG response follows reports that MPs have been apprehended as they tried to attend meetings chaired by the President with loaded pistols.

Rubaga North MP Singh Katongole was reportedly arrested with a loaded pistol during the NRM retreat in Kyankwanzi last month, while Busongora South MP Boaz Kafuda was arrested trying to enter the NRM caucus meeting chaired by the President with a gun last week.

“SFG is a specialised force and the safety of the President is what we do best. We have kept him safe and we shall continue to do so at all time,” the SFG spokesperson, Capt. Edison Kwesiga, said in a statement

He said they have standard operating procedures that require everyone who is not a member of SFG, with a fire arm to surrender it before accessing our area of operation.

“Claims that Hon. Katongole was arrested with a pistol are false. In the first place, the MP did not have a weapon in our defence. So, there is no way he could have been arrested with one,” Capt. Kwesiga said.
