Waiting for the day

Anticipating and waiting for the day’s first ray of sunshine to touch your face just as it rises over the horizon is the best way to start the day.  Feeling that ray on your face makes you know your choice to safari in Uganda was one of the best decisions you ever made in your life’s experience.  Safari is a Swahili word for journey.

Being on safari requires early mornings of quick breakfasts and piling into the 4×4 minivan with a pop-up roof.  Somebody in the lodge has washed the vehicle and the driver is eager to get on the road.  He says the packed lunches, ordered the night before, are ready and the ice-cold drinks are in a cool box.  But somehow there is nothing like that first breaking sunbeam over the horizon on your face….it’s going to be a good day.  What will the day’s adventures bring?

These are mornings at the safari lodges that GeoLodges Uganda owns and manages.  Whether you are looking for Murchison’s giraffes, or the tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth, the greater Blue Turaco in Mabira Forest or the presence of the magestic world heritage site of the Rwenzori Mountains, our accommodation facilities and attentive staff are ready to make those experiences even more enjoyable.  The lodges are designed with your comfort in mind, the staff is trained to anticipate your needs, the food made for you is healthy and filling to carry you through the day.

In the north, perched on the edge of the might River Nile, is Nile Safari Lodge in Murchison Falls National Park.  This lodge was first opened in 1993 and was the first luxury tented camp in Uganda.  It has ten rooms, all overlooking the River, perfectly positioned to allow you to watch the water on its long journey to Egypt and the sea.  The elephants come out on the opposite bank from the lodge to replace the need for a television in your room.  The elephants, hippos, water buck and a variety of birds are a natural nature show, that can be observed from your private veranda in your room.

In the south, Jacana Safari Lodge in Maramagambo Forest in Queen Elizabeth National Park is set on Uganda’s largest crater lake.  Lake Nyamusingire has a serene feeling to it, the forest that surrounds it is alive with hippos, baboons, vervets, and colobus.  The wild chimpanzees that live across the lake whoop it up throughout the night, telling bedtime stories to you as you fall asleep exhausted from the day’s exploration.  With twelve independent cabins, a swimming pool, sauna, and restaurant that treat your senses, the lodge was created to welcome you whenever you visit.

In the east, The RainForest Lodge – Mabira, set just outside Kampala on the way to Jinja will heighten your experience.  Located in the heart of Mabira Forest, this safari lodge is benchmarking service standards to suit your needs for safari, conferences, retreats or a weekend getaway.  Twelve comfortably designed chalets provide you with a good nights’ rest along with a swimming pool and sauna for those cool mornings in the forest.

In the west, stands Equator Snow Lodge nestled in the valleys and foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. This newest lodge in the GeoLodges Uganda’s newest lodge will cater for all of your safari requirements.  It is located close enough to walk to the entrance of the national park.   The restaurant and bar are perfectly positioned in the Visitor’s Centre to hear the calls of a wide variety of birds on the edge of the rushing Mubuku River.

The sun goes down almost twelve hours after the day started.  Your senses have been fulfilled, your needs fulfilled, and as you fall asleep at peace with a smile on your face thinking about the day’s activities….your curiosity is aroused as to the new adventure tomorrow.
