Kagame Cup champions Young Africans yesterday unveiled Burundian striker, Didier Kavumbangu who has joined the Jangwani based club for the coming season.

Yanga have snatched Kavumbagu from Atletico of Burundi as they seek to rebuild their team under Coach Tom Saintfeit. Kavumbagu caught the eye of the Belgian Coach after scoring a brace against them in their opening CECAFA encounter.

The new striker was unveiled to journalists by the clubÕs Information Officer, Louis Sendeu yesterday where he was given jersey no 21. He has signed a two-year contract.

After the official introduction, the player joined his colleagues for a training session at the Loyola Secondary Schools ground in the city where they are preparing for the Mainland Premier League kicking off next month.

Kavumbangu said during the occasion that he was happy to feature for the side and promised to put all his efforts to make the fans happy.

“I am happy with the reception I got from the fans and I am happy finally that I will play for Yanga, a club I had longed to feature for, I will put the best effort for the best results,” he pledged.

Coach Saintfiet described the striker as a great player and will be a great asset for Yanga in both local and international assignments. “Didier is a great player and a great striker. His combination with Hamisi Kiiza and Said Bahanuzi will be a powerful partnership. We always need to have enough players because at times players get injured or fatigued and we have to change them time and again,” he said.

The coach has also hinted that they are looking to sign one more foreign player as they seek to complete the transfer business. “We have only one slot remaining for an international player. We have several on our radar and we are scrutinizing each of them and their abilities to see who will best suite our needs.

The club also used the occasion to give an audience to its hit-man, Said Bahanuzi to alley rumours that he has signed for their archrivals, Simba ahead of the Premier League. Bahanuzi said he honours his two-year contract with the club and will remain a bonafide Yanga player, therefore, he insisted: ÒNews about my switch to Simba are unfounded.

Saintfiet named players who are yet to report for he camp as  Ugandan Hamisi Kiiza, who has an assignment with his national side, The Cranes, Ibrahim Job and David Luhende, who are in Mwanza while Juma Abdul is still nursing injury. Others missing are those with the national youth team, Ngorongoro Heroes namely Frank Damayo, Omega Seme and Simon Msuva.
